Paratransit is the door-to-door and curb-to-curb service for riders who can't use a fixed route: the ADA complementary paratransit that fixed-route bus systems must provide, county dial-a-ride, and senior and disability transportation funded through Section 5310. The bus boards a wheelchair at nearly every stop, so its lift or ramp, its securements and its floor plan matter more than anything else on it.
Most paratransit buses are cutaways with a wheelchair lift and two to four securement positions, on a Ford E-350 or E-450; low-floor buses with a kneeling ramp board faster where the budget allows. This page shows every one on TESCO's lot, new orders and pre-owned. TESCO has delivered paratransit fleets to transit agencies in Oklahoma and Ohio and sells through state DOT and cooperative purchasing contracts, so many agencies can buy without running a bid of their own.
Buyer's guide
What to spec
The decisions that matter for paratransit buses, the ones a rep will walk through with you before the build sheet.
Lift or low-floor
A rear or side lift on a cutaway is the most common paratransit bus and carries the most wheelchair positions for the money. A low-floor bus kneels and deploys a ramp, boards faster and has no step for anyone. Many agencies run both.
Securement positions
Paratransit loads change from run to run. Count the wheelchair positions your busiest run needs, and ask about seating that trades places with wheelchair space so one bus covers different loads.
Funding requirements
Federally funded purchases have to meet Buy America and FTA bus testing (Altoona) requirements. Name the funding source, Section 5307, 5310 or 5311, and TESCO quotes a configuration that meets it.
Buying without a bid
TESCO holds state DOT and cooperative purchasing contracts that agencies and their sub-recipients buy from. The fleet contracts page lists them.
Non-CDL floor plans
A bus that carries 15 people or fewer including the driver, counting wheelchair riders, with a GVWR under 26,001 lbs needs no CDL under federal rules, so any trained driver can cover any run. Most paratransit buses stay there.
Service far from Ohio
A paratransit bus off the road is a missed trip. TESCO delivers nationwide and supports its buses through a national service center network.

The platforms TESCO specs most often for paratransit buses. Each links to its model or brand page.
A bus built for riders who use wheelchairs or can't use a fixed route: a wheelchair lift or a low-floor ramp, securement positions on the floor, and seating that can trade places with wheelchair space. Most are cutaway buses on a Ford E-350 or E-450.
Can we buy through a state or cooperative contract?
Often, yes. TESCO holds state DOT and cooperative purchasing contracts that agencies and their sub-recipients buy from. The fleet contracts page lists them, and your procurement office can confirm eligibility.
Are these buses eligible for FTA funding?
TESCO quotes configurations that meet the Buy America and Altoona testing requirements for federally funded purchases. Tell your rep the funding source (Section 5307, 5310 or 5311) and the quote is built to it.
Do paratransit drivers need a CDL?
Not for a bus that carries 15 people or fewer including the driver, counting wheelchair riders, with a GVWR under 26,001 lbs. A lift doesn't change the license. Larger buses need a CDL with the passenger endorsement, and some states add requirements of their own.
Do you have used paratransit buses?
Yes. Pre-owned lift buses come in often and are on this page with the new ones, and most link a free AutoCheck report. Tell a rep the seats and wheelchair positions you need and they'll watch for one.
Can you build to our specification?
Yes. New buses are built to order: seats, wheelchair positions, lift or ramp and securements, to your agency's or your state DOT's specification, and a rep sends a build sheet with a delivery date.
Tell a TESCO rep what your routes look like and they'll come back with a build sheet, a delivery date and a price, whether you buy new, buy pre-owned or lease.
